what is farming for cash?
This program was created by Dr. Siddhartha Dasgupta, a professor at Kentucky State University. Dr. Dasgupta, a farmer himself, is a professor of agriculture. In the years he taught college students about the science behind agriculture, he realized there was also value in the act of cultivating.
By creating the Farming for Cash program geared toward novice farmers of all walks of life, Dr. Dasgupta enables his students with the knowledge and skills over the course of the year to grow their own products and eventually sell them. Should these students wish to continue farming upon completing the yearlong program, they leave the program with enough experience to qualify for various FSA loans and grants as beginning farmers.
Below you can “Read More” to understand what these beginning farmers in the program need from landowners like you. You may use the “Landowner Form” to share information about the land you would potentially be willing to make available to students pro bono or on a leased basis.
